What can I say about Mauritius? A honeymoon destination? Obviously, but it’s much more than that…
A paradise in the middle of Indian Ocean with mile after mile of sandy beaches and coral reefs. This place is home to incredible activities, unusual nature wonders and fascinating history.
So what are you waiting for? Let me take you through my experience in this gorgeous island.
My visit to Mauritius was back in 2019 when world was covid-free. I went there for my honeymoon and fell for its beauty in an instant. Mauritius is divided into north, south, east and west coast, and we spent a week in Mauritius exploring different parts of the island.
Let’s begin with the luxurious resort where we stayed.
- Anelia Resort & Spa
I must say, it’s a must visit property in west Mauritius. It pampered us a lot. Food was super delicious. From the rustic traditional roofing to the chic modern designs, the resort clearly depicted their traditional architecture with a touch of modernization. There were 5 bars, 1 spa and 2 swimming pool facing the beach. We had a gala time in this resort.
Local Transport: You can easily rent a scooty/car in budget and explore around.
Places to Visit
From exploring the authentic south of Mauritius on electric bikes to going on a city tour to Port Louis and to experiencing underwater sea walk, there’s a lot to do in Mauritius.
- Stunningly Beautiful Chamarel Waterfall
Chasing waterfalls is what I miss. The tallest waterfall in Mauritius and it’s well worth visiting on any island tour. You can even swim in the pools at the bottom. What makes the waterfall more gorgeous is its covering with dense foliage.
- Seven colored Earth
It’s a significant tourist attraction in Mauritius. Not many know that Mauritius is a volcanic island. The earth surface here was fascinating. It was created by volcanic rocks resulting in beautiful color patterns. Look at these different shades of brown, grey, red and purple. The more sun rays fall on it, the more it shines in different colors. The site was worth watching.
- Port Louis
The bustling capital of Mauritius boasts of its French colonial architecture. Citadel Fort is one of it. This historical fort was located at a place where we had a clear view of the harbour as well as the entire Port Louis City.
Facing the harbour, Le Caudan waterfront offers upscale shopping and a range of entertainment options, including a casino. Also rest your tired happy self at the amazing cafes.
- Ile Aux Benetiers Island
This was the place that had my heart. If you are travelling to Mauritius, do not, I repeat DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE.
We used a speed boat to reach this island. Once we onboarded the speed boat, the skipper briefed us about the experience we would get. It was a private island where the beach was publicly accessible. The view was breathtaking. It’s an island to have some relaxation time, to get tan on the beach, walk around the endless beach and explore the amazing lagoons and coral reefs around it. Crowd here was superb (Mostly Foreigners). We also saw Dolphins in the ocean.
- Underwater Sea Walk
Not a huge fan of adventure activities, but the underwater sea walk that I did was just marvelous. It is one of the most unique attractions that one must experience when visiting Mauritius. A true once in a life time experience for all non divers out there.
The excursion began with a motor boat transfer from the centre of Grand Baie to a spot located inside the lagoon. Upon arrival, we received a pre departure briefing on the gear and safety procedures.
You will witness the magnificent marine life of Mauritius, the beautiful fauna, corals and a wide variety of fish, all in their natural habitat.
Not to worry, qualified experienced guides will accompany you along the course of the Underwater Sea walk guaranteeing your maximum safety.
I loved travelling around Mauritius and it completely blew me away. If you’re looking for a uber-lux holiday, Mauritius should definitely be on your list. I have no doubt you’ll love it too.
